Day 26 – July 21 – Bright, Victoria

We had another carless day today. We started the morning with a nice walk and then had lunch at the condo. We then separated and did different activities in the…

We had another carless day today. We started the morning with a nice walk and then had lunch at the condo. We then separated and did different activities in the afternoon. Tari went on a 6-mile walk to the far side of the river and explored more trails over there. She came across a swimming area in the river and another area that is prime platypus habitat (we haven’t seen any platypus either). I did a 35-mile bike ride up to a nearby town and back. Had hoped to patronize a bakery in that town but unfortunately it was closed (since it is the off-season here lots of places close in the middle of the week). We finished the day with a quiet evening here and we finished the bottle of local wine that we had bought early in the week.

A few unique things we have seen in Bright.

We used to have pay phones in the town square. Now you have pay WiFi in the town square.
I am still struggling with the use of “hire” here in Australia. How do you hire skis? I know it means to rent skis, but I still struggle with it.
We are famous here! We have a street named of us…Wood Street!

The lines you see up on the hills are fire breaks. Fires are frequent here in the hot summers so they try to prepare for them ahead of time.

Pictures from Brian’s ride today to Harrietville

Bike path along highway up to Harrietville.
Mountains in the distance. Heartier cyclists ride all the way to the mountains. I was not one of those riders today.

Made it to Harrietville! About 17 miles uphill. But not a steep climb…mostly a gentle uphill. Nice cool temperatures made it very enjoyable.
