Day 16 – July 11 – Fly to Honolulu

Today was a travel day from Kona, Hawai’i, to Honolulu, Oahu. We had to fly to Honolulu because our flight to Melbourne tomorrow leaves from Honolulu. It was too risky…

Today was a travel day from Kona, Hawai’i, to Honolulu, Oahu. We had to fly to Honolulu because our flight to Melbourne tomorrow leaves from Honolulu. It was too risky to try to fly from Kona to Honolulu in the morning before our Melbourne flight. So, we are staying in a hotel next to the Honolulu airport tonight.

Probably not a surprise to many. of you, the the airport here in Kona is open air. The gates and waiting area are outside. Very different!
Looking back at the Kona airport after takeoff. I was completely blown away by the beauty of Hawaii.
We flew Southwest from Kona to Honolulu
Haleakala on the island of Maui. Was much more distinct today than when we landed in Kona earlier this week. We could also see it from Hawaii most days.
